Your Questions, Answered
We understand parents want clarity and confidence before their child’s first class. These answers reflect our approach: safe, structured, and designed to help your child grow physically, mentally, and socially.
-
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and how is it different from other sports?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more than a sport — it’s a lifelong skill and lifestyle. It develops confidence, focus, discipline, and resilience in every student. Unlike seasonal sports, it builds continuous growth and personal development, not just wins on a scoreboard.
-
Is Jiu-Jitsu safe for my child?
Safety is our top priority. Every class is structured and age-appropriate, led by certified instructors trained in youth coaching and supervision. Staff are current in CPR, First Aid, SafeSport, and child protection, and we maintain a culture of respect and accountability.
-
What will my child’s first class be like?
Your child will be welcomed into a supportive, structured environment:
- Shown the proper routines and protocols
- Introduced to a mat buddy and guided through basic exercises
- Provided a positive first experience focused on fun, confidence, and comfort on the mat
Even before stepping onto the mat, they’ll understand the rhythm and flow of a class, so every child feels confident and prepared.
-
How often should my child train?
We recommend 2–3 classes per week (depending on membership). Consistent attendance builds muscle memory, confidence, and lifelong habits, while still fitting into your family’s busy schedule.
Flexibility ensures your child benefits from growth without overcommitment, helping training become a sustainable part of life.
-
My child is being bullied or is a bully — is this the right place?
Absolutely. Jiu-Jitsu helps children learn self-defense, personal boundaries, and empathy. Our instructors foster an environment where respect, control, and confidence are built through guided practice, helping students respond to challenges positively both on and off the mat.
-
How do you support confidence and emotional growth?
We guide students to master themselves before mastering others. Each lesson encourages:
- Personal responsibility
- Effort over outcome
- Awareness of one’s abilities and limits
- Pride in growth and consistency
Your child will leave each class a little stronger, more confident, and more resilient than when they arrived.
-
What if our family schedule is unpredictable?
Our program is designed with flexibility in mind. Students may attend 2–3 classes per week based on their membership — no strict fixed schedule. This allows families to maintain consistency without conflict, keeping training part of your child’s lifestyle rather than a scheduling burden.
-
What should my child bring or wear?
For the first class:
- Comfortable athletic clothing (T-shirt and shorts)
- A positive attitude and readiness to learn
- We provide a uniform to borrow on the first visit
Everything else — mats, equipment, and safety gear — is provided.
